8th graders and Seniors...I hope you can enjoy this evening with your families, and we’ll look forward to celebrating you all tomorrow. We can add this to the list of unique memories you've created this spring.
Stay safe, Jags.
After evaluating every possible option for a graduation ceremony this evening, with lightning and continued storms, there’s simply no avenue that will allow us to honor our students while ensuring the safety of our Guthrie family. As much as I hate to do it, we are going to postpone our graduation ceremonies until tomorrow morning. We will have our 8th grade graduation tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. Our HS graduation will follow at 10:30. As of now, we’ll plan for the ceremonies to be at Jack Huey Field, but that is subject to change depending on tonight’s rainfall. I recognize this creates potential inconveniences for family and others traveling this evening, and likely creates new conflicts with previous personal plans for Saturday, but I believe it’s our only option at this point. Governor Abbott's Executive Order prohibits any indoor graduations, so we are limited to our outdoor options.

Mother Nature has definitely not cooperated with our plans for graduation ceremonies tonight at Jack Huey Field. For now, we are going to postpone the start of our ceremonies until 9:00 this evening. This means we will plan for 8th grade graduation to begin at 9:00, and our HS graduation ceremony will follow immediately. I know this may cause inconveniences for families, but we want to ensure everyone is safe. We will continue monitoring the radar, and I’ll plan to make another school-wide call around 8:00. Hopefully, we'll be able to move forward with a plan at that point. As for the location of the graduation if we are able to have it tonight...I’ll let you know that decision as soon as we're able.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Stay safe, Jags. Being forced to transition to an outdoor graduation means some elements of our traditional ceremony must be eliminated. Unfortunately, we are not equipped to show our senior slideshow during this evening's outdoor ceremony. However, we still wanted everyone to be able to enjoy these memories with loved ones.
Grab your Kleenex, and click the link below. Here's to the Guthrie Class of 2020... https://youtu.be/aeN9ILAWcMI Our 8th grade and high school graduation ceremonies will continue as planned for this evening (Friday, May 15). 8th grade graduation will begin at 7:30, and high school graduation will follow at 8:00. Both ceremonies will be held at Jack Huey Field.
Under Governor Abbott's guidelines for an outdoor graduations, we must follow specific social distancing practices. The "stage" with graduates will be on the north end of the football field, and chairs will be provided nearest that area for immediate family of graduates (10 per graduate). Other attendees are welcome to stand along the fence, bring lawn chairs, park along the visitors' side and south end of the field, or sit in the bleachers, provided we are all still practicing social distancing. Unfortunately, because of current restrictions, we will not be able to have our traditional reception following graduation. If Mother Nature chooses not to cooperate this evening, our backup plan will be to move the ceremonies to the 6666's covered roping arena. However, in hopes of creating memories on one of the best grass football fields in the state, we will postpone this decision as late as possible. Frogs on a Log
Ingredients
Directions: Cut celery stalks into smaller sizes. Spread peanut butter or almond butter on celery. Then place as many raisins (frogs) on the celery (logs) that your heart desires. This snack would be great for story time with The Wide Mouth Frog book! Or any book with frogs. *You burn more calories eating celery than the celery actually has! With students at home and on devices, parents might be wondering if the apps their children are using are safe. A great place to check out if these apps are worthwhile is Common Sense Media. Parents can search apps here: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/app-reviews.
While we at GCSD are by no means experts on these apps, we've recently had some parents express concern over the availability of chatrooms to young children through the FarmVille and FarmVille 2 apps. We simply wanted to pass along a note to parents regarding these apps as we know many of our young students use them. Besides appropriate apps, Common Sense Media also has recommendations for movies, TV shows, and books along with information parents need to know to keep their children safe online.
