The Jaguars and their undefeated season took the field on Thursday against Petersburg. The Jaguars had a lot riding on this game. It was Guthrie’s homecoming and the Jags just had to keep their season going with a win. As everyone knows the Jaguars were favored in this game, and they showed up to prove that they are a team that needs respect.
The Jaguars started the game of on defense and held the Buffaloes on their opening drive and got the ball back. On the ground, Landon Roberts took it in from 49 yards out to put the Jags up 6-0. The Jags mean defense showed up to this game, stopping the Buffaloes on every possession they had. Starting off the turnover’s was Christian Rocha intercepting a pass, giving the ball back to the Jags. Back on offense the Jags went back to the ground with Roberts again on 12 yard rushing touchdown putting the Jags up 14-0. On the next possession the Jags got another interception but this time by Dion Vasquez. When the Jaguars got the ball back again they kept with their ground game and again it was Roberts but this time with an 8 yard run putting the Jags up 22-0. The Jaguar defense didn’t give the Buffaloes a first down the whole first quarter. The Jaguars caused 3 turnovers by the Buffaloes in the first quarter. Christian Rocha picked a fumble and gave the ball back. When the Jags got the ball back they scored yet again, but this time it was Tucker Brendle on a 17 yard touchdown putting the Jags up 30-0 with a minute left in the first. With the ball back the Jags gave it Paden Rothwell from 3 yards out putting the Jags up 36-0 ending the first quarter. Starting the second the Jags kept the ball on the ground, giving it to Roberts. Roberts scored from 5 yards out putting the Jags up 44-0. The Jags defense stepped up this game, and didn’t allow the Buffaloes to get near their endzone. Getting the ball back the Jaguars put the game away giving it to Paden Rothwell again from 11 yards out. The Jags won 52-0. I don’t know if y’all have seen these guys play but they have something great going on. You have a chance this Friday as the Jaguars take on the Chillicothe Eagles at Jack Huey field in Guthrie, Texas. Hope to see y’all there. Our school has created and opened our very own online store! With the help of Mr. Wilson, and his students in Digital Graphics and Illustration, the very first round of stickers have gone up. The class is made up of seniors, Laura Wilson and Summer Wright, and freshmen Kylee Oliver and Yaretzi Sandoval.
The first sticker is a jaguar paw print holding a football with the high school football numbers punched in them. There is also an option to get a paw print without a number. They are 5” x 5” and can be printed in black or white, and cost two dollars each. Payment is made through credit card or a Paypal account. The online store will also include items that the Junior class is selling, and items that Cassie Daniel’s class is making. Over the next few weeks, students will post more of their stickers on the website. If you have a great design idea, feel free to go talk to Laura, Summer, Kylee or Yaretzi! Go check it out at: www.guthriejags.com/store The theme for this year's Chili Cook-off is "It's Homecoming".

When asked about her life in Guthrie, she said, “I can’t imagine a better place to live and raise a family. My kids get to see multiple examples of compassionate, hard-working people everyday. It’s a great community and school, and I’m happy to be a part of it.” We welcome Mrs.Chisum to our teaching staff with high hopes!

The cross country will run at Rule on the 15th! The Guthrie CSD library has started its very own book club! The club was thought of and put into place by Jaycee McCauley with the help of JoAnn Shipman and Romy Ferguson. The first book the club has started reading is Before You Meet Prince Charming by Sarah Mally. Jaycee was the one to recommend the book and said, “ The book definitely made me see dating and marriage in a different light and made me think about so many different things that have never crossed my mind. I wanted the girls in our school to also experience this awesome book.”
Mrs. Shipman says, “The book is a guide to preparing young girls for making one of the most important decisions in their lives, which is about relationships with boys, the dating scene, and future marriage partners. The book uses a study guide for the girls to use personally to review, learn and grow, and search their inner hearts. The book uses a sense of humor, Godly principles, and a fairytale allegory to ‘draw pictures’ that will hopefully help attendees better understand the principles. Illustrations, memory verses, and practical assignments will challenge students and make this a perfect book to use for small groups.” All girls, 6th grade and above, are invited and most welcome. They meet every Wednesday at 11:30 in the little gym foyer. The goal is to read one chapter a week and to answer the questions in the study guide as well. No one will ever be singled out, asked to speak, and the study guide questions are personal and confidential. The library wants to make sure everyone has the best time and gets the most out of it as possible! In the words of Jaycee, “I'm so excited to see how far these girls are going to take this book! I can't wait to see what steps they'll take towards purity and God’s way for dating. It's amazing that our school can do things like this, and I think we will all change the way we see dating and marriage after reading this book. It will be awesome to see what God does these next few months!” Mrs. Burson is the new Pre-K Teacher at Guthrie CSD. Still a new and young teacher with only four years under her belt, Mrs. Burson has wanted to help children since early in her college days at Texas Tech where she graduated from. She’s wanted to work with children, by making an impact on their lives by loving and teaching them. Not only is she a new teacher, she’s a new resident of Guthrie, Texas. “I really enjoy the simple things in life, and Guthrie has just that. I am proud to call Guthrie home!” says Mrs. Burson. She also said her motivation comes from this scripture, “and whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:17.
We welcome Mrs. Burson to the Guthrie Pride! Marianna Graves, known to students as Mrs. Graves, retired from Guthrie CSD after teaching for 37 years. During her 37 years, she was certified to teach Elementary, Family and Consumer Science, English, Reading, Business, Health, IPT, and Technology Applications. "My favorite part about being teaching in Guthrie was being a part of the community and county and participating in school/community/county activities and promoting the value of education." Anyone that saw Mrs. Graves in the hall could tell that she was Dedicated to her students. "I will miss the relationships with the students and school employees and seeing them on a daily basis."
Former Paducah ISD, Coahoma ISD and Guthrie CSD employ, Lynette Sweeney has decided to retired after 36 years of teaching. Before teaching, Lynette lived in Cameron, Texas and worked at a college registrar's office, was a camp counselor for rich kid's learning, and worked in her parent's funeral home. Lynette worked 18 years at Paducah ISD. Four of those years were teaching Home Economics, and Fourteen years teaching Special Education and Early Childhood. She also worked 7 years at Coahoma, where she spent four years in kindergarten and three years in 3rd grade. Last but definitely not least, she was the kindergarten teacher at Guthrie CSD for eleven years. I sat down with Lynette and asked her why she decided to retire and she told me because she felt like doing other things such as, working in the yard, cleaning, and relaxing on the beach.
